Former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has called on the Pakistan Cricket Board to fully support young mystery spinner Usman Tariq amid ongoing discussions regarding his bowling action.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with PakPassion, Saeed Ajmal reflected on his own experience of facing a ban due to an illegal bowling action and emphasized the importance of protecting and guiding players through difficult phases of their careers.
Ajmal urged the PCB to handle the matter professionally and maintain direct communication with the player regarding any concerns related to his bowling action.
“I request the PCB to take proper care of Usman Tariq and its players. If there are any concerns, they should communicate them through official channels,” Ajmal stated during the interview.
The former off-spinner, who was once regarded as one of the world’s leading mystery bowlers, knows the challenges associated with scrutiny over bowling actions. Ajmal himself faced suspension from international cricket in 2014 after his bowling action was reported and later deemed illegal under ICC regulations.
Following extensive remedial work and testing, Ajmal returned to competitive cricket, although the controversy significantly impacted the later stage of his international career.
His comments regarding Usman Tariq have sparked discussion among cricket fans and analysts, many of whom believe young bowlers dealing with technical scrutiny require institutional support rather than public pressure.
Bowling action concerns remain a sensitive issue in modern cricket, particularly for mystery spinners whose unique techniques often come under closer examination by match officials and governing bodies.
Cricket experts argue that proper coaching, biomechanical assessment, and transparent communication are essential to helping players correct technical flaws while maintaining confidence in their abilities.
Usman Tariq has recently attracted attention for his performances and bowling style, leading to conversations around the legality of certain aspects of his action. However, no major official development has yet been publicly confirmed regarding disciplinary measures or formal sanctions.
Ajmal’s remarks also underline broader concerns about how cricket boards manage player development and support athletes facing technical or regulatory challenges.
Many former cricketers have stressed that young players should receive professional guidance and mental support during investigations or reviews involving bowling actions, as such situations can place significant pressure on emerging talent.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has not yet issued a detailed public statement regarding the latest comments, but the debate continues to gain traction among cricket followers in Pakistan.
As discussions surrounding Usman Tariq continue, cricket fans will be closely watching how the PCB approaches the matter and whether the young spinner receives the support needed to continue his development at the professional level.
