The Government of Sindh has expanded its public transport network by launching the People’s Bus Service between Shikarpur and Sukkur, aiming to provide affordable and reliable travel options for daily commuters.
The service was officially inaugurated by Sharjeel Inam Memon, who emphasized that the initiative is designed to benefit the public and improve connectivity between key cities in the region. He also urged passengers to take responsibility for maintaining the quality and cleanliness of the buses.
A key highlight of the People’s Bus Service is its subsidized fare structure. According to the provincial government, the cost of travel will be shared, with the government covering half of the fare while passengers pay the remaining portion. This move is expected to make transportation more accessible, especially for low- and middle-income individuals.
Officials believe the new route will significantly ease travel difficulties for residents who frequently commute between Shikarpur and Sukkur for work, education, and business. The initiative also aligns with broader efforts to modernize public transport infrastructure across Sindh.
The introduction of this service reflects the government’s continued focus on improving urban and intercity mobility. By offering a cost-effective and structured transport system, authorities aim to reduce reliance on informal transport options and enhance overall commuting standards.
Transport experts note that such initiatives can play a vital role in boosting regional economic activity by facilitating smoother movement of people. If successfully managed, the expansion of the People’s Bus Service could set a benchmark for similar projects in other parts of the province.
With affordability and accessibility at its core, the new bus service is expected to gain traction among commuters in the coming weeks, contributing to a more efficient and inclusive public transport system in Sindh.
