Pakistan are preparing for a reshuffle in their coaching setup ahead of the upcoming Test tour against Bangladesh, with several former cricketers expected to take on key roles. The move signals a fresh approach as the team returns to red-ball cricket after a lengthy gap.

Sources indicate that former pacer Umar Gul is likely to be appointed as bowling coach for the two-match series. Meanwhile, experienced batter Asad Shafiq is expected to step in as batting coach, bringing valuable international experience to the role.

In addition, Abdul Saad is reportedly set to join as fielding coach. He previously served in a similar capacity with Pakistan’s women’s team, making him a familiar figure within the cricketing setup.

A major development under discussion is the potential appointment of former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed as head coach for the tour. While not yet finalized, the proposal highlights the management’s intent to bring experienced leadership into the dressing room.

The Test series, scheduled from May 8 to 20, will mark Pakistan’s return to the longest format since their last home assignment against South Africa in October. With the ICC World Test Championship cycle underway, the tour carries added importance.

Preparations are already in full swing at the National Cricket Academy, where an 18-player training camp is currently taking place. The camp, running until April 20, includes a mix of seasoned domestic performers and emerging talents, all aiming to secure a spot in the final squad.

Selectors are closely monitoring player performances during the camp, as competition remains intense for places in the touring side. Pakistan are expected to depart for Bangladesh on May 3, although final decisions regarding the squad and support staff are still pending.

This potential overhaul in coaching staff reflects a broader strategy to strengthen Pakistan’s red-ball structure. By combining experienced former internationals with developing players, the team management aims to build a competitive unit capable of delivering strong performances in the upcoming Test series.
