The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has barred Dasun Shanaka from participating in the 2027 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 12), citing a breach of contractual obligations. The decision follows his withdrawal from Lahore Qalandars ahead of PSL 11.

In an official statement, the PCB stated that Shanaka’s unilateral withdrawal on March 21, 2026, violated both the Player Registration terms and the Tripartite Agreement governing league participation. The board added that the reasons provided by the Sri Lankan all-rounder did not meet the criteria outlined in the PSL’s contractual framework.

As a result of the ruling, Dasun Shanaka has been declared ineligible for PSL 12, effectively closing a controversy that emerged just days before the start of PSL 11. The situation drew attention after his sudden exit from the Lahore squad.

Shanaka was initially picked by Lahore Qalandars during the PSL 11 auction on February 11 for Rs. 75 lakh, after going unsold in the Indian Premier League auction. However, before the tournament began, he withdrew and later joined Rajasthan Royals as a replacement for the injured Sam Curran.

Following his departure, Lahore Qalandars signed Daniel Sams as a replacement. The franchise confirmed the change on March 22, ensuring squad stability ahead of the tournament.

The PCB’s action highlights its strict stance on contractual compliance within the Pakistan Super League. League officials have consistently emphasized the importance of honoring commitments to maintain the integrity and professionalism of the competition.

This decision also sends a clear message to international players regarding adherence to league agreements. As the PSL continues to grow in stature, enforcement of rules remains a key priority for organizers.
