The Karachi Traffic Police have announced a temporary two-day closure of the Malir River Bridge on the National Highway to facilitate ongoing construction work for the Malir Expressway. The traffic restrictions will be in effect on July 18 and July 19, with both carriageways remaining closed from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day.

According to the traffic police, the closure falls under the jurisdiction of the Malir City Traffic Section and has been planned to ensure the safe and timely completion of construction activities associated with the under-construction Malir Expressway.

Motorists traveling through the area are advised to plan their journeys in advance and expect delays during the closure period. Traffic authorities are expected to implement diversion plans to help manage vehicle movement and minimize disruption for commuters using the National Highway.

The Malir Expressway is one of Karachi’s major infrastructure projects, designed to improve connectivity and reduce travel time between different parts of the city. As construction progresses, temporary traffic restrictions have become necessary to allow heavy machinery and engineering teams to carry out work safely.

Officials emphasized that the temporary closure is intended to protect both construction workers and road users while ensuring that development work proceeds without unnecessary interruptions. Authorities have urged drivers to follow traffic signs, cooperate with on-site personnel, and use alternative routes where possible.

Commuters, transport operators, and logistics companies are encouraged to adjust their travel schedules to avoid peak closure hours. Traffic congestion is expected on surrounding roads, particularly during the morning and evening periods when vehicle movement is typically at its highest.

The Karachi Traffic Police have assured the public that necessary traffic management arrangements will be in place throughout the two-day closure. Personnel will be deployed to guide motorists and help maintain a smooth flow of traffic on designated alternative routes.

Large-scale infrastructure projects such as the Malir Expressway are expected to improve Karachi’s transportation network in the long run, although temporary inconveniences during construction are often unavoidable. Authorities continue to request public cooperation as work progresses toward the project’s completion.

Residents and daily commuters are advised to stay updated through official traffic advisories for any changes in road conditions or diversion plans during the construction period.
