
Dr. Umar Saif, the Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, holds a firm commitment to elevate ICT exports from $2.62 billion to a substantial range of $10–20 billion.
Assuming the role of the Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology & Telecommunication and Science & Technology, Dr. Saif embarked on his responsibilities. His initial engagement at the ministry’s office commenced with a welcoming reception by Secretary IT Navid Ahmed Shaikh and senior officials. He took the opportunity to acquaint himself with the ministry’s officers and staff, followed by an in-depth briefing on completed, ongoing, and upcoming IT ministry projects.
Addressing the officers, Dr. Saif emphasized the limitations and responsibilities of the caretaker government as dictated by Pakistan’s constitution. While the primary focus is on ensuring transparent and unbiased general elections, overseeing critical ministerial affairs remains imperative during this phase.
He outlined his priorities, highlighting the comprehensive implementation of the Digital Pakistan Vision and the fostering of stability and growth in the IT and telecommunications sectors. Dr. Saif reiterated the importance of collaboration with all stakeholders, asserting, “I am dedicated to elevating ICT exports from $2.62 billion to the significant range of $10 to $20 billion.”
Dr. Saif underscored the potential role of robust ICT exports in bolstering the nation’s economy, generating high-quality employment opportunities, and aligning with the overarching goal of digitizing governmental and semi-governmental entities across Pakistan.
