The Government of Sindh has approved the establishment of modern vehicle inspection centers across the province under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, aiming to strengthen road safety standards and reduce environmental pollution caused by unfit vehicles.

The decision was taken during the 52nd meeting of the Public Private Partnership Policy Board Sindh held at the Chief Minister House Sindh. The session was chaired by Syed Murad Ali Shah, where key infrastructure and transport-related reforms were discussed.

Officials stated that the new inspection centers will be equipped with modern testing technology to assess vehicle fitness more accurately. The system is expected to ensure that only roadworthy vehicles operate on highways and urban roads, particularly commercial transport that often contributes to accidents and air pollution.

The initiative is part of broader efforts by the Sindh government to improve transport regulation and enforce safety standards across the province. Authorities believe that modern inspection facilities will help reduce mechanical failures on roads, improve traffic safety, and minimize emissions from poorly maintained vehicles.

Under the public-private partnership model, private sector participation is expected to play a key role in developing, operating, and maintaining these inspection centers. Officials say this approach will help introduce international best practices while reducing the financial burden on the public sector.

Transport experts have long emphasized the need for a standardized vehicle inspection system in Pakistan, where many vehicles operate without proper safety certification. The introduction of automated and modern inspection systems is expected to bring greater transparency and efficiency to the process.

The Sindh government also aims to align this initiative with environmental goals, as vehicular emissions remain a significant contributor to air pollution in major cities like Karachi. By removing unfit vehicles from roads, authorities hope to improve air quality and reduce accident rates.

Further details regarding the number of inspection centers, locations, and implementation timelines are expected to be announced in upcoming phases of the project.
