Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices in Pakistan have witnessed a sharp increase, with the national average now ranging between Rs. 3,900 and Rs. 5,135 per 11.67 kg cylinder. This marks a significant jump from previous levels of Rs. 3,150 to Rs. 3,968, intensifying financial strain on households.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the spike was recorded during the week ending March 26. The most noticeable increases were observed in multiple cities across Punjab, where consumers are already grappling with rising living costs.

The surge in LPG prices is largely attributed to supply disruptions and increasing global energy prices. As supply tightens and import costs rise, local markets are forced to adjust, passing the burden directly onto consumers.

The impact is being felt beyond household kitchens. LPG-powered transport, including rickshaws, buses, and minibuses, has become more expensive to operate. As a result, fares have increased, placing additional pressure on low and middle-income groups who depend on these modes of transportation for daily commuting.

Market analysts warn that if the upward trend continues, it could contribute further to inflation, affecting essential goods and services. Small businesses that rely on LPG for operations, such as food vendors and roadside eateries, are also likely to face higher costs, which may be transferred to customers.

For many households, LPG remains a crucial energy source, particularly in areas with limited access to natural gas. The recent price hike has therefore raised concerns about affordability and energy accessibility, especially for vulnerable communities.

As global and local energy dynamics evolve, consumers and policymakers alike will be closely monitoring LPG price trends and exploring potential measures to stabilize costs and ensure supply continuity.
