KP Government Plans ‘Peshawar Valley Railway’ Train Service to Improve Regional Transport

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced plans to introduce a new train service in the Peshawar Valley in collaboration with the federal government. The proposed project, titled the Peshawar Valley Railway, aims to enhance regional connectivity and provide an efficient public transportation option for residents.

According to official documents, the provincial authorities have initiated discussions with Pakistan Railways to move forward with the project. In this regard, the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has written to the Secretary and Chairman of Pakistan Railways outlining the provincial government’s proposal.

The letter highlights the provincial government’s intention to operate railcars and diesel multiple units (DMUs) using the existing railway infrastructure within the Peshawar Valley region. By utilizing already available railway tracks, authorities aim to reduce project costs while improving transportation services in the area.

The planned Peshawar Valley Railway is expected to serve as a modern commuter rail system designed to support daily travel for residents of Peshawar and surrounding districts. The service would potentially ease traffic congestion on major roads while offering a reliable and environmentally efficient transportation alternative.

Officials have confirmed that preliminary groundwork for the project has already begun. The provincial government has initiated the pre-feasibility study phase, which will assess the technical, operational, and financial aspects of the proposed railway service.
