Pakistan is preparing to make history as it hosts the first-ever International Qirat Competition (IQC-2025) later this month, a landmark event set to highlight the country’s deep-rooted Islamic heritage and global religious stature.

Organized by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the prestigious competition will be held in Islamabad from November 24 to 29, bringing together over 34 world-renowned Qur’an reciters (Qaris) representing member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

According to Radio Pakistan, this initiative underscores Pakistan’s commitment to promoting the art of Qur’anic recitation while strengthening spiritual and cultural bonds among Muslim nations. The event will serve as a unifying platform, celebrating the shared reverence for the Holy Qur’an across the Islamic world.

The International Qirat Competition will feature multiple rounds of recitation, judged by a panel of esteemed scholars and experts from various OIC member countries. Participants will be evaluated on pronunciation, melody, rhythm, and adherence to Tajweed principles — showcasing the rich diversity of Qur’anic recitation traditions across different regions.

Officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs emphasized that the event is not merely a competition but a celebration of faith, art, and unity. The ministry has also announced that the competition’s opening ceremony will include performances of traditional Islamic music and a special tribute to legendary Qaris from Pakistan and abroad.

Hosting IQC-2025 is a moment of pride for Pakistan, which has produced globally acclaimed Qaris such as Qari Abdul Basit and Qari Ghulam Rasool. The event is also expected to strengthen Pakistan’s soft image internationally, showcasing the country as a hub of Islamic scholarship and cultural exchange.

Beyond the competition, a series of seminars, exhibitions, and interfaith dialogue sessions will be held alongside the main event to promote religious understanding and intercultural harmony.

By hosting the inaugural International Qirat Competition, Pakistan is positioning itself as a leader in fostering spiritual diplomacy — using the beauty of Qur’anic recitation to bridge hearts, nations, and generations.
