Staggering Figures Unveiled by Foreign Ministry

During a recent parliamentary session, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry revealed that a staggering 10,279 Pakistani citizens are currently imprisoned in Saudi Arabia. These detainees are spread across major regions, with 5,341 held in Riyadh and its surrounding cities, while 4,848 are confined in Jeddah and nearby areas.

Crimes Leading to Imprisonment

The official report highlighted that these individuals have been detained for 18 different offenses. The crimes range from drug trafficking and money laundering to cybercrime, smuggling, and even murder. Violations of border security laws also contribute significantly to the numbers.

Ongoing Repatriation Efforts

Efforts to bring prisoners home are underway. The ministry disclosed that it is collaborating with Saudi authorities to repatriate 400 Pakistani prisoners. Relevant details are being exchanged to expedite their return.

Philanthropic Interventions Help Secure Releases

Over the last three years, 253 Pakistani prisoners have been released from Saudi jails, thanks to the generous contributions of philanthropists. This highlights the vital role of private initiatives in addressing this pressing issue.

Government’s Commitment to Its Citizens Abroad

The Foreign Ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Pakistanis imprisoned abroad. This includes legal aid, diplomatic interventions, and consistent efforts to secure their release and reintegrate them into society.
