Mobile internet services across various areas of Karachi have been disrupted since last night, leaving thousands of residents frustrated as they struggle to carry out daily online activities.

Security Concerns Behind the Suspension

According to reports, the suspension was implemented due to heightened security concerns in the region. Although no official timeline for restoration has been provided, the disruption has significantly impacted business operations, educational activities, and routine communication for residents.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior clarified that internet restrictions were limited to specific areas with potential security risks. Services in other parts of the country remain functional, though the affected areas in Karachi have yet to see any resolution.

Nationwide Security Tightened

Meanwhile, stringent security protocols have been enacted in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, particularly in response to planned PTI protests. Authorities have blocked key entry points to the twin cities at 33 strategic locations, including Faizabad, IJP Road, and Rawat T-Chowk. Containers have been deployed to restrict movement, disrupting traffic on major routes like the Faizabad Flyover and Kacheri Chowk.

Diplomatic Visit Adds Pressure

Adding to the heightened security scenario is the upcoming arrival of an 80-member Belarusian delegation, including the country’s president, from November 24 to November 27. The visit demands further restrictions to ensure diplomatic safety, intensifying the inconvenience caused by internet outages and mobility restrictions.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi addressed PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar following Islamabad High Court directives, emphasizing that protests and sit-ins cannot be permitted under current circumstances. The minister reiterated that national security and international commitments, including the Belarusian delegation’s visit, take precedence during this period.
