Controversy Over Government Vehicle Procurement

The Punjab government’s decision to buy new vehicles for additional commissioners and other revenue officials has been legally challenged. Advocate Mudassir Chaudhry filed the petition on behalf of Sheeraz Altaf, contesting the government’s use of public funds.

Petitioner’s Arguments

The petition argues that during economic hardship, public funds should be directed towards public welfare. It also states that the caretaker government lacks the mandate to make such expenditures.

Court Proceedings

The petition requests the court to nullify the procurement notification. A government letter dated July 20, 2023, sought approval for Rs 2333.747 million to purchase vehicles for Additional Commissioners, Additional Deputy Commissioners, and Assistant Commissioners.
