In a unique move to address street crime in Karachi, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has announced a program offering free motorbikes and cellphones to victims. The initiative aims to ease the burden on those who have lost their transportation or communication devices due to theft.

“More than 1,700 motorcycles were stolen in Karachi last year,” Tessori stated. “Bring your original CNIC and FIR to Governor House, and I will provide you with a new motorbike and cellphone.”

This gesture highlights Tessori’s commitment to tackling the city’s pressing security concerns. He believes that by supporting victims, the community can collectively combat crime and build a safer environment.

The governor also emphasized the importance of individual responsibility. “If everyone contributes their part, national issues can be resolved,” he said. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the people but assured them that efforts are underway to address them.

Tessori further announced the rollout of health insurance cards offering individuals and their families treatment coverage up to Rs500,000. This initiative aims to improve access to healthcare for all residents.

“This is for everyone as long as they fulfill the requirements,” Tessori declared, emphasizing inclusivity and transparency in the program.

He also highlighted his dedication to public service, stating that he has not demanded anything from anyone during his 15 months in office. He pointed to past initiatives like providing ration to 250,000 people and hosting iftar dinners for 300,000 at the Governor’s House as examples of his commitment to the people.

Tessori’s announcement of free IT courses further underscores his focus on empowering the community through education and skills development.

This unique approach to tackling street crime has sparked mixed reactions. While some applaud the governor’s initiative, others raise concerns about its feasibility and potential for misuse. Nevertheless, the program has undoubtedly grabbed attention and sparked a conversation about tackling crime and supporting victims in Karachi.
