The Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology in Sargodha has formally launched cardiac electrophysiology services, marking a significant development in the availability of specialized heart care in the region.

A symposium was organized at the institute on Wednesday to officially mark the launch. The event brought together senior health officials, cardiac specialists, doctors and medical staff to discuss the importance of advanced heart rhythm services.

Chief Minister Punjab’s Adviser on Health, Major General (Retd) Azhar Mahmood Kayani, attended the symposium as the chief guest. His participation highlighted the Punjab government’s focus on expanding access to modern cardiac treatment.

President of the Pakistan Heart Rhythm Society Professor Brigadier (Retd) Azmat Hayat, Dean Major General (Retd) Khurram Shehzad, cardiac electrophysiology experts and other medical professionals also attended the event.

Addressing the gathering, Azhar Mahmood Kayani said the Punjab government was taking comprehensive measures to improve healthcare services and provide people with modern and quality medical facilities.

Cardiac electrophysiology is a specialized field of cardiology focused on the electrical activity of the heart and disorders involving heart rhythm. The availability of dedicated electrophysiology services can help expand treatment options for patients suffering from various cardiac rhythm problems.

The launch at the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology is therefore expected to strengthen specialized cardiac care for patients in Sargodha and surrounding areas. It could also reduce the need for some patients to travel to larger cities for advanced heart rhythm-related services.

The development comes as healthcare institutions across Punjab continue efforts to improve specialized medical facilities. Modern cardiac services are particularly important because heart-related conditions remain a major healthcare concern requiring timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

The symposium also provided an opportunity for cardiac experts and healthcare professionals to discuss advancements in electrophysiology and the importance of specialized treatment facilities.

The participation of members of the Pakistan Heart Rhythm Society further reflected the professional significance of the new service. Collaboration between experienced specialists and medical institutions can play an important role in strengthening the quality of cardiac care.

The new services are also expected to support the institute’s broader role as a cardiac healthcare facility serving patients from Sargodha and nearby districts.

For patients, the expansion of specialized cardiac services could mean improved access to diagnosis and treatment for heart rhythm disorders closer to home. It may also contribute to the development of a stronger network of cardiac healthcare services across Punjab.

The Punjab government’s emphasis on modern healthcare facilities remains an important part of efforts to improve medical access across the province. The launch of cardiac electrophysiology services at the Sargodha institute represents another step toward expanding specialized treatment facilities outside major metropolitan centers.

As the new service becomes operational, its ability to provide advanced care will be closely watched by patients and the medical community. The involvement of cardiac electrophysiology specialists is expected to support the institute in delivering specialized services to people requiring heart rhythm care.
