July 2025 fuel price hike

Petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan are set for a potential increase, with the government expected to announce a fresh adjustment effective July 16, 2025.

Reports from energy sector sources indicate that petrol may rise by Rs6.60 per litre, while high-speed diesel could increase by Rs5.27 per litre. These potential changes are being reviewed amid rising international crude oil prices and the continuing depreciation of the Pakistani rupee.

The proposed revision will be formally presented by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division). The pricing review includes data from oil marketing companies, factoring in the latest trends in global markets and shipping costs.

While OGRA provides the groundwork, the final decision lies with the Ministry of Finance, which will coordinate closely with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif before issuing a notification. The federal government may choose to absorb part of the hike depending on its fiscal position and the broader economic impact.

As of July 1, current prices are Rs266.79/litre for petrol and Rs272.98/litre for diesel. Should the anticipated hike be approved, petrol would rise to Rs273.39/litre, and diesel could approach Rs278.25/litre.

The upcoming hike follows global market shifts and continues a trend that has raised concerns among consumers, particularly those in transportation and logistics sectors. With inflation already weighing heavily on households, a fresh increase could add further pressure on the economy.
