CDWP Approves Seven Development Projects Worth Rs. 253 Billion, Focuses on Education and Infrastructure

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved seven major development projects with a combined estimated cost of Rs. 252.974 billion, marking a significant step toward expanding infrastructure, higher education, information technology, and institutional development across Pakistan.

The approval was granted during a CDWP meeting chaired by Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal. The meeting reviewed several important schemes aimed at strengthening public sector development and improving national capacity in key areas.

According to details, the CDWP approved four projects with a total cost of Rs. 12.437 billion, while three larger development schemes worth Rs. 240.537 billion were recommended for consideration by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for final approval.

The approved and recommended projects cover multiple sectors, including higher education, IT development, physical planning, and housing. Officials highlighted that these initiatives are designed to improve infrastructure, enhance institutional capabilities, and support long-term economic growth.

Among the approved projects were four schemes submitted by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), focusing on improving educational facilities and strengthening universities.

One of the key projects approved in principle was the revised “Strengthening of Women University of AJ&K Bagh” initiative, with an estimated cost of Rs. 2.551 billion. The approval was granted subject to cost rationalization, ensuring that project expenses remain efficient and aligned with development priorities.

The project aims to improve academic infrastructure and enhance opportunities for women’s higher education in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Strengthening educational institutions is considered essential for increasing access to quality learning opportunities and developing skilled human resources.

The CDWP meeting also reviewed other higher education projects submitted by the HEC, reflecting the government’s focus on expanding academic capacity and improving facilities at public sector universities.

Officials emphasized that investments in education, technology, and infrastructure are critical for Pakistan’s future economic development. Improved institutional capacity can contribute to innovation, workforce development, and stronger productivity across various sectors.

The information technology sector was also included in the development review, highlighting the government’s continued efforts to expand digital infrastructure and support technology-driven economic growth.

Meanwhile, physical planning and housing-related schemes were discussed as part of broader efforts to improve urban development and strengthen public infrastructure. These projects are expected to address growing demands for better facilities and organized development in different regions.

The recommendation of three major projects worth Rs. 240.537 billion to ECNEC indicates the scale and strategic importance of these initiatives. Final approval from ECNEC will determine whether these large-scale schemes move forward toward implementation.
