Pakistani runners achieved a significant milestone at the 2026 Cape Town Marathon as Karachi-based marathon runner Faisal Shafi and British Pakistani athlete Huma Rehman secured their eighth World Marathon star, currently listed as provisional.

The marathon, held in Cape Town against the iconic backdrop of Table Mountain, attracted more than 27,000 runners from around the world. The event once again highlighted Cape Town’s reputation as one of the most scenic marathon destinations globally.

For Pakistan’s growing marathon community, the event marked an important achievement as a small but dedicated group of runners represented both Pakistan and the overseas Pakistani community on the international stage.

The accomplishment by Faisal Shafi and Huma Rehman is particularly notable because earning multiple World Marathon stars requires athletes to complete a series of internationally recognized marathon races across different locations. Their latest achievement reflects years of endurance training, commitment, and participation in elite global marathon events.

The Cape Town Marathon has rapidly gained prominence in the international running community due to its challenging route, breathtaking scenery, and increasing global participation. The event features runners from dozens of countries competing across various race categories, including elite and amateur divisions.

Pakistani participation in international endurance events has steadily increased in recent years, with more athletes from the country taking part in marathons, ultra-marathons, and long-distance running competitions worldwide. Runners and sports communities in Pakistan have increasingly promoted fitness culture and endurance sports through local clubs and organized events.

Supporters and fellow athletes praised the performances of Faisal Shafi and Huma Rehman, describing their achievement as an inspiring moment for aspiring Pakistani runners. Many in the running community believe such milestones help increase Pakistan’s visibility in global endurance sports.

The participation of overseas Pakistanis in major international marathons has also played an important role in strengthening representation for the country in global sporting events. Athletes of Pakistani origin continue to contribute to the growing recognition of Pakistan’s marathon community internationally.

The 2026 Cape Town Marathon added another memorable chapter to Pakistan’s developing endurance sports journey, with local runners continuing to make their presence felt on prestigious international courses.
