The Punjab government has approved the procurement of 1,000 electric buses and a series of employment-focused initiatives as part of a broader development strategy aimed at economic inclusion and sustainable growth.

The decisions were taken during the 32nd meeting of the Punjab cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where policies covering agriculture, transport, health, education, and governance were reviewed and approved.

A major highlight of the meeting was the launch of the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” program. Under this initiative, state-owned agricultural land will be allocated to citizens for cultivation, creating income opportunities for thousands of families.

The chief minister directed authorities to immediately begin distributing government land to 50,000 people, emphasizing that public land must be used to generate livelihoods rather than benefit a limited elite.

In the transport sector, the cabinet approved the addition of 1,000 electric buses to Punjab’s public transport system. The move is aimed at improving urban mobility while reducing fuel costs and environmental pollution.

Officials said the electric buses will be rolled out in phases across major cities, providing affordable and eco-friendly transport options for daily commuters. The initiative aligns with Punjab’s broader clean energy and climate resilience goals.

The cabinet also approved new employment schemes linked to agriculture and public services, designed to support youth, small farmers, and low-income households. These programs are expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs across the province.

In addition, the meeting reviewed reforms in education and healthcare, focusing on improving service delivery, transparency, and access in underserved areas. Governance-related measures were also discussed to strengthen oversight and implementation.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif described the approved initiatives as part of a long-term roadmap for inclusive development, stating that economic growth must translate into real opportunities for ordinary citizens.

Officials confirmed that implementation timelines for the approved projects will be announced soon, with relevant departments instructed to ensure transparency and timely execution.
