Maryam Nawaz Sharif Launches Energy Relief Program
In a bid to reduce electricity costs and promote clean energy, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced the Free Solar Panel Scheme in Punjab. Designed for low-energy users, the program is expected to benefit 100,000 households, offering long-term savings and sustainability.
How to Apply for the Scheme
Eligible residents can now register for the program through:
- Online Portal: Visit cmsolarscheme.punjab.gov.pk and fill out the application form using your CNIC and electricity bill reference number.
- SMS Option: Text your details to 8800.
Following verification, beneficiaries will be selected via a transparent computerized ballot system.
Solar Panel Distribution Details
The scheme caters to varying electricity needs:
- 550-watt panels for households using up to 100 units/month.
- 1,100-watt panels for households consuming up to 200 units/month.
This year-long initiative is expected to revolutionize energy access for low-income families.
Key Features and Benefits
Each solar panel system will be linked to the consumer’s CNIC to prevent theft and misuse. By reducing reliance on traditional energy sources, the program will also cut Punjab’s carbon footprint by 57,000 tons annually and lessen the financial strain on the federal government.
Enhancing Public Welfare
The solar panel scheme complements Punjab’s existing electricity subsidy program, which has already provided relief to 7.3 million consumers. A dedicated helpline will soon be available to assist residents in navigating the application process and reaping the program’s benefits.
