The authorities in Peshawar have announced a fare increase for the city’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. The new fares, which see an increase of Rs5 per stop, will set the minimum fare at Rs20 and the maximum at Rs60. In addition, the BRT fare policy includes provisions for young children. Kids under the age of 5 can travel for free on the BRT system when accompanied by their parents. Simultaneously, Pakistan Railways has also announced a fare hike, driven by the increasing costs of petroleum. The new fare structure includes a 1% increase across all classes of passenger trains, including economy, AC standard, AC business, and AC parlor. A notification from the Railways Department indicates that the fare increase will be effective from Friday, July 19. Divisional superintendents have been directed to update the fare tables to reflect the new rates.
